Chickpeas, also known as Garbanzo beans or grams, are sun-loving legumes that are widely used in Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Indian cuisine. We supply two main varieties of chickpeas — the larger round light-coloured Kabuli-type and the smaller dark brown Desi-type often used in India. Experience the best of chickpeas with our selection of Kabuli and Desi varieties.
Kabuli chickpeas are also known as channa, Garbanzo beans or Egyptian peas. They tend to be smaller with thicker seed coats and range in colour from light cream to solid brown. This variety of peas is commonly used in cuisines of the Mediterranean regions, as well as in Central and South America. We are authentic traders of the finest quality Kabuli Chickpeas since the beginning in the Middle East.
Desi chickpeas are also known as Bengal gram or kala channa. They are thick, rough light to dark brown skin-coated seeds, sized between 4-6 mm. These desi chickpeas are also ground into besan or gram flour, which is gluten-free and full of protein and fiber. Their consumption is particularly popular in India and the Middle East. As seasoned agro-commodity traders, we source and deliver only the highest quality produce to our clients worldwide.
Chickpeas are tender legumes that grow in a bushy shrub form under full sun. Being indeterminate they continue to grow new leaves which start to flower in varied colours— purple, white, pink, or blue — depending on the seed variety. The chickpeas grow in small pods which are harvested dry after they tan and turn brown in colour.
Depending on the weather conditions, chickpeas are ready to be harvested within 85 to 100 days after planting, in the late summer. They don’t demand much ongoing care or lots of water, unlike other crops they repel many common garden pests.
Our top-quality Kabuli chickpeas are sourced from Mexico, India, USA, Argentina, Canada, Ethiopia, Russia/Ukraine, Tanzania, Turkey, while our premium Desi chickpeas come from India and Australia.
